Family and friends came today to the „Sveta Troica” Church in Ruse to pay tribute to 30-year-old Elena Gencheva, whose tragic death shook Bulgaria and the Netherlands. To offer his condolences, Europol Director Catherine De Bolle arrived in Ruse in person with a delegation of European police officers.
„I am here because I am the director of Europol and I was an Elena’s boss. I am here to offer our sincere condolences of the mother and the father of Elens, because everybody in Europol is very much affected by the tragic circumstances in which she lost her life. We are tuched by that and that is the reason why I am here with the delegation – to tell the parents that she was an amazing partner and colleague of us, a friend of a lot of the people in Europol and we really appreciated her. The tragedy that happened should never have happened. Elena for us was an amazing friend and colleague, we will never forget her. She was one of us and shi will always be one of us“, Catherine De Bolle said.
Elena Gencheva is a graduate of the English High School. Then she took a degree in law in the Netherlands and until her tragic death she worked at Europol. The body of the young Bulgarian woman was found by the police on November 18 at her home in Emmastraat in The Hague, after her friends signaled that they had not seen her for some time. She was shot by her friend Hristo Katsarov. A European arrest warrant was issued for him, but when the Bulgarian police went to detain him, he committed suicide.
